Full of young players with immense talent, St. Kilda engaged itself in an intense arm wrestle with the experienced Magpies for the entire afternoon. But the further the game went the greater the feeling became that Collingwood's experience would be a telling factor.

But the Saints weren't to be denied.

Despite the fact that Collingwood was doing all the attacking late in the game, St. Kilda's defence, led by Bob Murray, turned the tide consistently.
