Brian Hook is an archetypal dad blissfully unaware of how easily he can drive his middle-aged son Alan to distraction and frustration. Alan in turn desperately wants to be a cool dad and communicate with his own teenage son Vincent - determined that Vincent doesn't suffer the same childhood embarrassments he remembers so vividly. Inevitably he tries too hard and his attempts to communicate often end in disaster.
